I'm pretty new to the DSLR world, but it seems to me that Nikon is a pretty solid choice (I tend to prefer Canon for point and shoot and other compacts for their menu functionality though). I think it comes down to how much you're willing to spend, but I was told it's a pretty big jump in performance going from the 3200 to the 7000... the price jumps too though. If you like taking pictures and haven't really used a camera other than the iPhone, it's probably best to stick at the 3200 to learn all the controls like ISO, aperature, shutter speed, etc... I started out with a Canon S90 and learned a lot with that. Either way, get a decent camera that allows these controls and just start playing around and learning - it is a ton of fun!
