The 3000 and 5000 series lack the MF adjust feature, which means you can't dial in your lenses to be super sharp. That's only available on the D7k and up. Once you've used MF adjust, you'll see how much of a difference it makes in your photos.
Also they don't have the AF drive, so older Nikkor lenses that use the screw-drive AF system are worthless.
