Yes, it's unique. It's like the lumpy ash tray you made your parents in school (yes, I'm showing my age). There's not many like it, but that's not a good thing. People get hung up on it because it's one of the few affordable 4x4s on the market. The lack of any competition makes its many shortcomings much easier to forgive.
