The tacoma has an 8.4" diff (8" if e-locked), leaf sprung rear end, and the 4Runner has an 8" 4 link rear end on coils.
Tacoma had a channeled frame, 4Runner's is solid all the way back.
That's really pretty much it, they are very similar in every other regard, comes down to if you want a bed or not.
