Timming issues
I have a 1986 4Runner with a 22re and I am having problems with the timing. If I jump across the two terminals and set the timing it seems to not run very well. Also, if I set it and then take out the jumper wire, the timing doesn't change. The mechanical advance appears to be working. It seems that it isn't being changed by the computer. I just put a new engine in. If I set it by ear, it seems to run great and has a lot of power. The problem with that is that it tends to get too hot. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should check? Could it be something in the distributor or maybe the ignitor?
Any help would be helpful
