I figure my options are a CB radio, a couple 2 way "walkie-talkie" type radios or some fancy HAM radio.
What is everyone else using and why?

HAM is the most capable of all the comm systems.
I'd solely be on HAM if it weren't for everyone being too lazy to get a HAM license. So in that aspect, a CB in the truck would significantly increase your chances of being heard by someone on the trail, at least everywhere I've been to in the east. Best of both worlds would be to have both in the truck.
