As a diesel mechanic on a carrier, I'm never actually in a battlefield. There is literally no quantifiable reason where I would need a gun in the performance of my job or standing my watch.
What I would like to see happening, especially since I'm seeking recruiting orders and I know the area where my station will be isn't that great, is that we would be allowed to carry concealed while executing our duties. I don't think that's unreasonable especially considering if I wasn't in uniform or in the actual recruiting office, I can walk around the mall carrrying concealed without any problems.

There are metric sh*t tons of qualified armed people on base. Most of them though are guarding the entries and exits of the base. Which is why I think the Ft. Hood shooting was possible, he had access and was inside the perimeter. When was the last time someone made a successful incursion onto a US military base (on US soil) from the outside?
