I actually bought a vehicle based strictly on a rack. I was trying to carry a 22 foot 25 pound racing canoe utilizing a short based roof rack. That set up did not work very well when traveling through high cross winds. To solve the situation, I went to my local Yakima rack supplier and combed the entire catalog to see what vehicle had the longest recommended distance between crossbar A and B. I bought that vehicle.
