Hey of you guys have changed the look of your SR5P wheels please post them. I just got a '17 and I wanted to see what you guys have done for ideas. I have the metallic gray with stock rims and tires and a new set of wheels can't be justified right now

I might have biased opinion (not a fan of black aluminum wheels) but those look like steelies on service such a police cruiser vehicle. I'm not impressed. Just my $ 0.02. Sry but you asked for opinion :)

has held up well, scratched them a bit on the last offroad trip, but so did one of my buddies with powdercoated wheels. I grabbed another can and touched it up, his still had a scratch last I checked.
I thought plastidip wasnt durable because it was removable but it is a lot more durable than I thought.

Hope I'm doing this right: New to forum. I too just got a gray 2017 SR5. I'd like to plastic-dip mine in the same body color but can only find titanium. Would that color match the gray color on the 2017? Anybody? Bueler?

grab a piece of wood and put a couple of coats on it, compare it and see how close it is. the cap is pretty close to the color

He didn't ask for your opinion. He asked if anyone has done anything to them to get ideas. Is there really a need to rain on his parade? Thanks for your opinion....:mad2:

Back to the op, I have Plasti dipped mine with black and glossifier and they held up well off road. I am probably going to sand them down and do a paint job on them after a trip to the red rocks in Arizona. I have done this in the past with previous vehicles and they hold up well. If they do scratch, they are fairly simple to repair.

I wouldn't powder coat them because I think it doesn't make as much sense for sr5 wheels since they are 7" wide. Might as well upgrade to some new wheels for roughly the same cost.

New rims (800-200 for selling your stock rims = 600)
Powder coating rims = 400

Hope this helps you on your ideas and look forward to hearing on what you decide!

Everything you post here will be responded with opinion. No one "rains on his parade" and obviously that did not hurt his feelings like it did yours. Don't worry about other members, be happy and welcome to the forum by the way, ninchendo.
 
I too am interested in seeing what folks have done. I would really like some TRDP wheels but with the new purchase that may have to wait. I was thinking plasti seeing it's easy enough to do and reverse. Is the pic above with glossifier or just the standard out of the can?

no glossifier in mine, give it a shot. I was against the stuff until I tried it.

Check out https://www.dipyourcar.com/collections/popular-wheel-kits

They have a bunch of colors. You can buy their "wheel kits" but not really necessary IMO. Just buy the color from them ($10 a can) . The Glossifier is up to you obviously but can be found at Home Depot, and cleaner you can just use an GP cleaner.

Maybe a dumb question, but how did you keep your Toyota emblem and lug nuts silver? Did you just cover them with a template or something? I love this look but was unsure how to plasti dip without blacking out the entire wheel including logos and lugs.

I would imagine he took the wheels off and removed the center cap before painting them. I would be concerned about getting it on the brakes and hubs of I left wheels on the car.

plastidip is pretty neat in that you don't have to be too careful. I did my emblems and intentionally over sprayed by an inch or so because it makes it really easy to peel. any crease or emblem is almost separate from the other surface just start peeling the stuff on the emblem and it will break right at the crease and make a perfect cut. hope that makes sense... someone above posted a link to a guy who does a very good job explaining how to do it.
