And my advice is that this may be the best lesson for the kid. Simple car with simple mechanics. Not much that you can't work on with your own two hands. Buy the kid a decent socket set and a shop manual. Help him out when he needs it (and he's going to need it), but make sure he does the bulk of the work.
I would have loved to have had that at 16.
