An Eagle here, I am all about Dutch ovens, no not the trick I play on the old lady. They are great for camp cooking, one pot, set it and forget it. Soooo many options for breakfast, lunch/dinner and dessert. Don't get me wrong, a lil 2 burner Coleman should be brought too but Dutch ovens are super versitile.
I know this isn't super boy scouty, but, Road flares!
Twigs and bits and lint are great, but when it's cold or wet or windy you want a fire now!
Hope you and your son can learn a lot and enjoy yourselves, it's a great program
