I carry a Benchmade everyday here... normal stuff. Knives on your person is the equivalent to being armed. All you hear on the radio is about knife crimes and stabbings.

Of course they don't have gun crimes, but ur absolutely more likley to get shanked than shot.

As far as that dude defending himself... that's complete bullshit. Hopefully he has enough money for a defense because cash is about the only thing you need to really keep you out the slammer. That goes same for the states in a home defense shooting. Using deadly force is not cheap.
