Wiring kit to add a micro usb power cable with relay switch?
Can anyone recommend a wiring kit that will best fit my objective? Or any other alternate ideas?
- 2004 4Runner
- Installing a Garmin Mini 2 dash cam
- Would like install a on/off switch for the dash cam in one of the left side dash switch slots.
- Don’t care about passing data on the cable to the Garmin Mini, would be for power only.
- Garmin Mini 2 requires a male micro usb cable. 12V, max 1.6A
- Don’t need ignition off power to the dash cam.
I’m thinking the best approach would be to:
- Run a micro usb power cable from the left circuit box up the left front pole and across the windshield tucked under the front of the ceiling. I have my hands free microphone routed this same way to be on top of the mirror, so comfortable doing the same.
- Use a fuse tap to connect the power cable in the fuse box.
- Would need a relay in the circuit (max 1.6A) to route to a new dash switch in the left front.
- A cable with a right angled micro usb connect at the end would be strongly preferred as the Garmin Mini micro usb port is on the side of the cam. Would be bringing cable down from in front of the mirror to the Garmin.
- Planning to use a Aironboard switch to toggle power to the dash cam.
Any flaws in this idea or alternate suggestions?
Any recommendations for a wiring package that comes with at least the fuse tap and relay to handle 12V, 1.6A? Would be nice to have the micro usb power cable included, but could buy that separately if compatible with the other parts.
