Looking at the '98 EWD attached, you would have to switch off the L-W wire somewhere between the left Rear door on it's way back to the hatch. I really have no idea where that cable goes but the diagram looks like you can get to it behind the left side pane in the cargo bay near the left rear passenger door. Anywhere else, you will be disabling other locks as well as the hatch. L is Blue so it is Blue with white stripe. There should be three of those joined together and only one is heading for the hatch. It will be heading toward the roof.
