Lot of shaking at about 70mph

I think it is the shocks, if it is i will be upgrading to the tundra shocks

Any other ideas of what it might be if you think i am wrong and this has happened to you?

Could be a few things. Off the top of my head:

U joint
Tire out of balance
Bent wheel
Tire out of round
Bad rotors
Steering rack guide
Ball joint or tie rod end

To name a few
 
Shaking can be caused by a lot of things. Out of balance wheels, bad alignment, poorly balanced drive shaft, ect.
 
Can you tell us a little more about the problem? When it happens, where do you feel it, any noises with it, accelerating, etc? It would help us help you out.
 
yall are scaring me, it doesnt shake until i get 70 mph like literally its not shaking at 65 or lower its right at 70 and its the steering weheel that shakes

and i saw somewhere if it were my alignment than it would be shaking around 55
 
Okay, so most likely it's in the front end. Did you happen to hit a curb or anything recently? Does it look like any wheel weights fell off? How is the steering otherwise? Is there any play in it or is it tight? How many miles on your 4Runner? Any recent maintenance to the suspension, ball joints, steering rack, etc?
 
its got 145k and yeah i hopped a median a few weeks ago cuz a damn light was out and the idiots were just sitting there...
and no recent maintenance on anything like that
 
tbh i don't remember i don't do much highway driving i cant remember when the first time it started.

Ill go get my tires balanced and rotated and all and see if its still happening?
 
I'd look a little further than that. Hopefully not, but likely, you either bent a tie rod or a wheel. At the very least you'll need an alignment. Shouldn't be anything too bad though.
 
Too much tire pressure? When I had a new set of Michelins installed, the steering wheel (and my belly) shook at about 65-70 mph. The dealer had inflated to 36 or so psi per tire. Lowered it to 32 and the shaking disappeared.
 
I vote for rear wheel bearings. I just resolved the same problem on our minivan. A worn tie rod on one side also caused a little shake but 90% came from the rear wheel bearing and it didn't start shaking until we hit 65mph then it shook so hard the seats would rattle. Sometimes the bearings make noise and sometimes they don't. I let it go too long and it destroyed the rear shocks absorbers.

If it were driveline related it would steadily increase with speed and if front wheel related you'd feel it in the steering wheel.

He said he feels the shaking in the steering wheel, so I'm thinking it's front end related.

I missed that. Okay, so does the steering wheel wobble or just shake up and down? wobble would suggest a tie rod. up and down would suggest something is out of balance or worn out, like the ball joints or bearings. Try this, a bearing might growl a little in a turn. Get to 45mph and start a turn and listen to changes in the road noise. The side with the weight(load) is the worn bearing.

At that kind of mileage, I suggest you change the ball joints simply because of the history of seperated BJ in these trucks. Its super easy to do in your garage and it really shouldn't change your alignment if you use Toyota parts.

If it were me, I'd change out both BJ and OTRE on both sides. In fact, I'm at 159K and thats one of the items on my list for this weekend along with a right rear bearing/seal/brake repair.
 
Probably tires out of balance, which is one of the most most common problems, I have no idea why everyone is telling him to replace his whole front end, start with tires and go from there.

IMO big tires don't start to shake at 70mph. They usually start at lower speeds and build up. Also they get more shakey as the speed increases. A quick and cheap way to check it out is to put the front tires on the back and visa versa. if the shake remains in the steering wheel, you'll know.
 
I have to agree with JohnsD90 here. I had some duratracs last year that didn't shake at all until exactly 76mph. They wouldn't balance for ****....liked the way they looked but gave me trouble.

My tires now just started to shake really bad at 70 so I took a look and sure enough there is a wheel weight missing.
