Oh man, so I'm going to try and do the best I can to give some background information and explain the situation. Here we go...
I have a 2000 4runner SR5 4wd w/ a 5vz and it has about 94,000 miles on it. Heres the issue: Yesterday, (10/31/12), I drive the car around to run some errands in the morning, car runs normally and doesn't alert to the coming frustration. Among the errands were filling up my gas tank from USA Gasoline 87 octane, and picking up some new Sylvania Silverstar's as one of my HIDs went out and I didn't want to mess around with figuring out whether it was a ballast, a bulb, or my wiring harness. (sidenote: I used to work at Umnitza Lighting and dealt too often with HIDs giving out). So after all this I get home opened the hood, take out my entire HID system and install the new bulbs. It was about an hour or so after, when I had to take off for work. So I hop in, I start up the car; car starts perfectly fine. It idles between 1000-1200rpm, no funny sounds, and if there was any roughness I hadn't noticed because I was too excited to finally have working lights. I give the car gas though, it increases in rpm by maybe 200 or so and then completely bogs down. I let go of the gas, idles fine, give it gas and it bogs down again. And as long as the gas is being is pressed there's no power goin to it. I turn the car off get out, and smell a bunch of gas. So that's what's going on.
Now here's the strange thing, since the day I bought the car, about mid-November of 2011, the check engine light has been on. (it turned on, on my way home after purchasing it car was still running fine and i hadn't noticed anything strange about the acceleration or anything so i shrugged it off, ran a diagnosis the next week and it was throwing the PO0171 code) BUT now after all of this happened the check engine light is OFF!! on top of that, when i went outside today (11/1/12) i noticed a very little puddle underneath the middle of the car, bent down and lo and behold an exhaust leak.
Seriously this has just been 24 hours of face palming and trying to figure out what going on. While I'm not a complete noob when it comes to cars, I'm still not entirely familiar with my 4runner yet. I'm hoping this might be something I can fix on my own to keep costs down but at this point I just need the car running because it is my daily. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
