Clunk when coming out of 4wd

Hi everyone,

Just bought myself a 1998 Limited and had a question about a clunking noise.

I have the limited edition which has the 4L-N-H position shifter and the 4wd button to activate H4 from H2(Locked center diff).
When i activate 4wd by pushing the button it seems to do it smoothly, but when i DEACTIVATE it, the car makes a clunking noise.

Is this normal?

mine does that but iv started running through those gears a couple times a week to keep everything in order. i can tell a difference in how it works now
 
Are you on a hard dry road or pavement when you disengage?

Mine does a clunk whenever I disengage and it is not on snow, ice, mud or grass. Perfectly normal.

The solution is don't wait until you get back on pavement / hard roads to switch to 2WD.
