This showed up on my door step. I Got it all sanded, cleaned, and primed, just to keep it from getting worse, but won't have time until later in the week to paint and install it.
I did get out wheeling again, I went with two guys from our toyota Facebook group. We went to Little Moab. An FJ and a Tacoma. Didn't get many pictures. Hopefully they post some up as well.

Cool video. I need to get my sliders welded on some day...

For the tire carrier: make sure you put a dab of loctite on the thread to the retaining pin or whatever it's called. The spring loaded pin that keeps the carrier from swinging all the way out. My plastic ball fell off on the freeway the first weekend I had it, and CBI wanted like $22 to replace it.

Thanks for the advice! I'm installing it on Wednesday after a long wait so I'll be sure to stop by autozone and get some tomorrow. What did you use as far as lubricant goes for the spindle?

Haha. Both you and @KidVermicious ! We'll all get out soon. I definitely want to head out there again. I had a blast and definitely want to do some harder lines.

I did not use anything, yet. Apparently the brass pieces are "impregnanted" with lubricant... After my week long off-road trip though, it's starting to get kinda tough to open/close. Not sure what I'll use yet.

I'll definitely look into. I'll call CBI before install tomorrow and find out what they recommend.

Those are bronze oilite bushings, no extra lubricant is needed. The more you use the swing arm the easier it gets to open and close, you want that spindle to stay as tight as possible. Dont introduce another lubricant that is going to grab and hold dirt and grit in there accelerating wear.

Yeah, I don't know how long the front will last. I'll beat it up and sell it but I don't know if I like how it attaches to the frame. I may end up going with the AOR tube front or make a custom front bumper. All in due time.

Well, I have good news and bad news

The good:


The bumper is here, and field tested.





It's safe to say I get to trim my fenders. I'll most likely follow what @crazydubman did so I can keep my flares




The bad:



I'm actually very lucky. ITS NOT A BALLJOINT!
What happened was the bolts that attach to the spindle went a funk. 1 was missing, the other 3 broke. Luckily I was going 5 mph at the time. There is no body damage, and as far as I can tell, no other damage, though I'll inspect it more tomorrow. I was very lucky as I was on the edge of a small cliff as well.... Nobody was hurt. I had to leave the truck in the middle of the trail... I ran 3 miles down the canyon until I could hitch a ride to the base where I called Ben. He came up and we piggybacked it down 100ft and sadly had to leave it for the night.

I went back up this morning and she was still all good I'm glad I have locker lugs and I put my now ruined tire in the hatch under the cover. Think a warranty will cover this?

Thanks Kevin. I think I have it all figured out. I'm getting her towed in the morning so I can tap the bolts and replace them. After that, warranty the tire 👽
