My main thing was avoiding the dreaded milkshake, went with the 70268 in the end. Many owners had them and no issues plus when I went to order Summit didn't have the 64 available

Considering buying about $150 worth of tune-up items (spark plugs, fuel/air filters, o2 sensor, etc.) from RockAuto. It seems my total cost buying there is about half what it would be buying from somewhere like NAPA or Advance.

Would you guys advocate buying those things from RockAuto? All of the items would be from brands I trust (Denso, WIX, NGK, etc.). Basically I want to know if they are reputable enough that I wont have to worry if I have to return something.

Nice thread man. Apart from the rust, the truck looks pretty okay. Pray that the frame recall thing which people have been discussing here turns true then you would be golden!

Replaced the spark plugs, wires, COP boots, PCV valve and grommet, and air filter yesterday.

The o2 sensor's mounting nuts are completely corroded away, going to take it to an exhaust shop and hope I dont need a new downpipe. Hopefully he can drill and tap new studs in.

Currently waiting on a flare nut wrench I ordered to arrive so I can install the fuel filter.

Is Valvoline SynPower 75w-90 (VV975) worth it for $9.99/qt (would need abt 5qt for F, R, Tcase) or do you guys recommend that oil at all?

Replaced the fuel filter today. Wasnt bad at all considering how much rust is on the rest of the truck. PB Blaster worked it's magic I guess.

I'll write another post if I find that it performs any better.

Wow it's been a long time since I've posted to this thread!

Quite a bit of new stuff has been done since my last update, full list on post #2, but I'll put the new stuff here as well:

New Koyo radiator! Performs amazingly well, fit right in and looks great.

New belts and hoses of course, along with an Aisin fan clutch to replace the original which had seized in the last month or two.

My new boss is an excellent welder and has agreed to help repair my frame, so that's on the horizon.

I'm also in the final decision phase of what lift kit I'm going to buy. Very heavily leaning towards the Toytec BOSS kit since the struts are pre-assembled and it comes with almost everything I need, along with the rumors that they ride better that Bil 5100s. My main concern is ride quality on and off road. Tired of being beaten to death by my worn out stock suspension.

BIG update time!

Since I have last posted in this thread, I have been working as a professional automotive apprentice (first six months) and Technician at a midsize independent shop. I was laid off the week after christmas and I will not be returning to work there. This left little time to focus on my 4Runner and my other project car (which I may touch on later), but I still managed to do most of the things I needed to do to the truck save for a lift kit, which I have mostly decided against due to the truck being a bit on the rusty side.

Here's the major stuff that I can remember right now:

Fixed the back half of the frame out of necessity due to the driver rear control arm mount rusting through at the welds:





Cant find pics of when I got it done for some reason, it's been over a year I think.

Rebuilt the starter:



Did it without fully removing it and with the truck in the air on a two post lift. Easiest way for sure:




Replaced the valve cover gaskets. Went much quicker than expected, finished in about 2hrs:











Changed the oil (shop discount at Advance ftw):



And finally, I replaced all of the brakes this month:















I think that sums it up! This post of course does not include the adventures I took it on in the meantime. Maybe I'll post them up soon as well.
