2000 Camry calipers on 3rd gen T4R

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use 2000 Toyota Camry rear calipers for a disc brake conversion on their runner? I know the rotors are the same size, I just don't know if everything would bolt up, or if it would be fab intensive. Thanks!

the rotors are the same size as what? you surely can't use the ones off of the camry (5lug vs 6 lug). plus those calipers seem really small for a 4Runner. Let alone that you would most likely have to get rid of the abs sensors and Ebrake. I don't think its doable at all.

Theres a company that makes a kit with GM rotors and calipers and lines to go from toyota to GM fittings, I don't remember the company for some reason even though I was on their page yesterday
 
I wasn't planning on using the rotors, just wondering about the calipers, because I can get some with an eBreak, and the fronts take up 75-80% of the stopping power anyways? Just figured a toyota caliper might be easier to do

that is an interesting idea. my first thought though is that with that big of a caliper in the rear you wouldn't have a good braking balance. But it is worth doing some research on for sure.
 
I am in the process of doing the rear swap (slowly collecting parts) and I looked at the camry rear calipers. Didn't really like the idea due to the parking brake system. It's a disc brake and the the parking brake is similar to a quarter drum brake that the shoe presses up against. I'm sure the caliper would work fairly well but the mustang parking brake system is superior.
 
I have done absolutely no research, just want to state that from the start. BUT, I don't see why you couldn't do something with 4runner front calipers on the rear. You know the rotors would go right on and if you are making brackets for the caliper already, then you would be all set. Then for the e-brake (again I haven't looked) I know there are some transfer case style e-brake kits out there for the Toyota pickups, maybe something like that for the e-brake. They are very simple clean kits and might do the job!
 
I like [MENTION=93512]MojaveMadMan[/MENTION] 's idea. Plus if you do the tundra upgrade, you would have most of the parts you would need for a rear disk swap if you had the time to iron out all the kinks and get it working properly.

Personally I don't know much about brakes so the farthest I'll most likely go is tbu, that's straightforward enough for me :p

Are you planning on racing your 4runner? Or are you just doing it for funsies...

Might as well get some wilwoods
 
Honestly The OEM drums' have Plenty of stopping power for the rear if adjusted properly.

the most noticeable braking upgrade you can do is the TBU or a set of sport rotors and pads for the front.

I went with the EBC slotted/drilled rotors and EBC greenstuff pads and the braking is great.

Before you use this junk, call and ask them to sell you just pads, they won't. I have first hand experience with this kit. Looks nice, and actually works(once you work out getting it installed), but I wouldn't use it again, ever. Kit is a 4 letter word invented by marketing bozos.

Haha that sucks... I haven't done any real research, was just brain storming on how you could do the conversion. I know others have mentioned just pulling a little stop valve in the brake line system to hold the rear brakes... not sure how well it works but an option. I honestly have no issues with my rear drums.
