Finally back at it after Thanksgiving, got to install the superflex springs and no more "saggy diaper" .

A friend lent me a space and tools for $30 and it was well worth it.

Getting the OME 890's out was no problem at all, the real problem was having space to get the BEEFY superflex coils in.

The best we could do to get the axle to drop enough was remove the shock eyelet mount from the top instead of the lower eyelet.
100x easier

Okay, got this started yesterday morning been about 30 hours of work and no sleep. 4Runner is on stands in the university parking deck and I'm on my way to get my slug adapters pressed into the spindles instead of me trying because I was damn close to damaging one with a ball joint press. Here's where we are now, we still have the rear arms to get swapped!FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-image-jpg
we took the spindle off and going to get the slug adapter pressed in now. This is not for the faint of heart

After securing everything, torque to spec and voila! Time to test.

This took a weekend due to sorting out some fitment issues as expected, everything was a bit *too* snug thus, my job was not made easy. So far, over 6 months and nothing but AWESOME.

As well as the front UCA's to get the most out of the coilovers, the rear end needed some attention after 280,XXX:FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-img_3217-jpg

A more clear shot of how well it is handling (simulated) ruts... FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-img_5201-jpg

Install went well, I have to shorten the panhard bar as it is too long, unfortunately that is the price to pay when buying non-name brand items. They have taken a few hits and not even a serious dent. It comes down to (how far are you willing to go to make things work?) At this point I can confidently say that they are up there in terms of the quality (FOR THE PRICE) in comparison to TC arms or another name brand... $400 isn't bad at all.

Front End Facelift

A storm's brewing in my garage! FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-img_5214-jpg

The new Bilstein 8125 Coilover matched with 14" 650lb king springs or Eibachs; this is a short bodied version of the coilover. 60mm shock body, 8" shock travel with a beefy shock stanchion. This external resi setup is a bit different from any Icon or King setup, primarily because of the amount of shock travel. The damper is also in the external resirvoir canister where the shock oil is held. I was perfectly content with the coilovers I have currently on my rig, I just recieved an offer I could not refuse and I will be paying no money out of pocket for this upgrade.

I will be running a limiting strap setup at 10" or 11".

Unfortunately I bought these towards the earlier half of this year and I no longer have the link to where they are listed nor can I find them in any searches I've done. I looked for a while this morning and nothing.

Be looking around on Ebay because I bought both front and rear control arm sets that I have purchased from there. So far, theyve been exceptional.

Update time:
New Bilstein 8125 in my possesion now FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-bilstein-8125-jpg
I need this 90 degree fitting to run it without interfering with the UCA's FreshSeaBass's Build Thread-eaton-90degree-fitting-jpeg

I will be running Sonoran Steel's Limiting strap frame mount with:
- Kartek Quad Wrap Blue 10" limiting straps
- Trail-Gear 9/16 shank Multi-Strap Clevis mount
- Toytec's External Reservoir Mount kit
- King 3.0" ID/ 14" 650lb Springs

The additional modification I will need to make is to the misalignment spacers on the lower mount of the CO's. They are spaced out to 1.5", and if my measurements are correct 3rd Gen's have a lower mount spacing of 1.25".... No big deal, I will just shave 0.25" off of the front misalignment in order to shift the mounting of the CO forward of the CV axle.
This is not for any particular reason, just to have a bit more peace of mind that the CV will not contact the CO.

Re-gearing finally!!!! From stock to 4.56 E-Locker will be a huge improvement for me. 5-speed + 4.56 + 4Lo = Good Times! Doing the front transmission seal from the R150F I picked up off of Car-Part.com . No current plans to run 35's... Can anyone convince me? I feel that 4.56 with 5-speed and 35's can make for some good wheeling, any opinions on 4.88? I still want decent highway speed.

Nice!! I was looking into running the 8125's. Those are 8" travel shocks? Shouldn't you be running 18" coils instead of 14" coils then? I'm interested to see how they work out. What are you running for upper mounts or are you making your own?

Edit: I see you already have upper mounts. Where did you source those from? And are they 4runner specific?

To answer your questions
1) Yes they are the 8" travel version, I will actually be removing the bump stop on the shock stanchion. These are the short bodied version of the 8125, and as per my measurement as well as consulting the guy who sold them to me (Certified Toyota Tech) the 14" 650lb is perfect for what I have. Even 16" would be pushing it because of the minimal amounts of preload I will be running, I have a tube front bumper, winch, hi-lift, soon running skid plates and the 4wd conversion will add some weight. I am looking for L.C.O.G. in addition to maximum travel without LT. This is my mid-travel overland build. In essence, less preload= some rake + stiff on the road + plush on the trail. Stay updated on this build to check it all out. I always measure 5 million times and do it once... there's even a slight chance of running 16", but that's a stretch!
2) The mounts came with the shocks when I bought them... they are the Dirt King Coil-bucket mount for the 03-09. I double checked and they fit! I also trust a Toyota technician that sold me these. Same bolt pattern!

Awesome! That's good to hear that they are the correct coils then. The reason I asked that question, and I'm sure you already know this, is typically coilovers require coils that are 2X length of shock travel +2". Are these on Bilsteins catalog at all? I was looking about a month ago at the 6" 46mm 8125's and didn't notice any short body options. Maybe just in the 60mm sizes only?
I am running the short body 7100's in the rear though and they are working great. I'll definitely be watching this build. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
