Steering rack polyurethane bushings: grease or no grease?

Usually when installing polyurethane bushings, greasing them seemed to always be part of the instructions. But all the write ups, youtube video, & even the instructions that came with the energy suspension poly bushings didn't mention anything about greasing before install.

Anyone that's installed the poly steering rack bushings, did you grease or not grease the bushings prior to install?

No grease because they shouldn't have any movement.

Guess that kinda makes sense...probably also why I never saw any mention of greasing the bushings in any of the instructions I looked up.

Appreciate the input.

Just did mine. No grease, as nothing should really move. They didn't come with any grease either (Energy Suspension),

Good to know. I have energy suspension also. I'm assuming all of the metal sleeves that came with the ES worked fine?

...Was wondering b/c Wheeler's advertises a 4th custom metal sleeve they include with their steering rack bushing kit..

I have Total Chaos and used Super Lube Synthetic. They recommend it. No grease and they'll squeak. Don't use moly. Moly will eat through the bushings.

Yep, look closely at the different lenghswhen you put them in. One is slightly different. Not sure what they are including.

I hope I don't have to redo mine for squeaking. The rack doesn't have much movability with the tie rods in place without bolts in the bushings. It was kind of a fight to get the rack into a good spot to get the bushings in place, particularly the center one.

Found my Total Chaos Urethane Steering Rack Bushing Instructions:

Item #7 "Coat the inside and outside of the new rack bushings with a generous amount of grease..."

Excerpt from another Website about Super Lube Synthetic Grease (You can get this on Amazon). For what it's worth...

*************************************************

"This is the good stuff!

Polyurethane bushing manufacturers advise to never use a petroleum based grease for poly bushing lubrication. Polyurethane should only be lubricated with one specific type of grease to insure a long bushing life and squeak-free performance. Synthetic water-proof grease, the clear sticky stuff!

We've found this grease to be so good, we use it for the entire chassis lubrication on the cars we build and race out of our shop. It stays where you put it and it doesn't wash away."

*************************************************

Here's the website - HERE

Enjoy! It's messy stuff!

NO grease on rack bushings. Nothing moves, nothing corrodes. I've done about 4 sets of these.

This comes with the kit I'm going to use it. If not happy with the results I'll take them off clean then re-install.

^Good to know. I just installed my steering rack bushings yesterday. I got energy suspension and grease wasn't included but they did have a thin coat of grease on them already. I wasn't sure which way to go so ended up greasing them. Also replaced my front LCA bushings with whitelines which was a lot easier then I thought...just took some time unbolting everything and putting it back together.
