"BEEFY" New OEM Crank Bolt
Meaty New Crank Bolt
Been getting all the OE parts for a timing belt job (280K) and thought I would share the photo of the Toyota crank bolt for all 3.4L engines.

Is that bolt supposed to be changed with the belt? I've never heard of a bolt being considered a wear item.

The FSM says the bolt is not a reusable part. I have reused it through two TB changes and did not want to gamble on it lasting another 90K miles (OCD kicking in)

Are you sure? I just read the FSM and there was no mention of replacing the bolt that I could find?
Although there is no harm replacing it.

I am sure. Look on page EM-12. It shows a black diamond symbol. Look to the bottom left of the page and it clearly states "Non-reusable part"

@ BamaDrewski
speaks the truth. The other side of the argument is that Toyota does that for ALL parts that require LocTite, as their only approach is to apply their own pre-treatment to a one-use bolt. Many have stated that dealers routinely re-use and apply Loc-Tite to this bolt.
Given the extreme torque and critical nature of the part, I would not criticize any one who bought new, but I see the other side, too. I bought a new one when I did mine, but I would have gone ahead without it without really worrying.
I don't know if that is a 'new beefy' part and I don't think it is for ALL 3gs. The listed part for '96-'98 is still 90105-16031.

Thanks, I've been meaning to look up the part number for that. Procrastination pays off again!
I'd probably reuse the existing one if the replacement was expensive. But for all it costs, meh, might as well do it right.

I've never replaced it on the 8 or so TB jobs I've done on these, never had an issue.
With that said, its a cheap part and in the grand scheme of things it won't hurt at all to replace it. Honestly, if I'd think about it when I'm ordering parts I'd probably replace it too.

My copy of the FSM for a 96 Tacoma doesn't even have an EM section!
I've got an EG, but no EM.

Just curious, do you use Loctite?

I bought my 1999 in paper from Toyota in 1999. The 2002 is on-line at:
1996 to 2002 Toyota 4Runner OEM Repair and Wiring Manuals
You can download yours from TIS by buying a 2-day pass for $15 and spending a LOT of time downloading.
https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo...tis&_nfpb=true
You can find paper ones on e-Bay but figure on over $200 for all three volumes (2 of FSM + EWD)

There seems to be some confusion on the crank bolt numbers. I too thought it was part number 901505-16031 for my 2000 T$R. I checked three dealerships (Including Toyota of Dallas) and they informed me the replacement part number was 90119-16006 and they said it was for "all 3.4L-5VZFE engines". NOTE: When you plug in a 2000 Toyota 4runner in the Toyota of Dallas website and put in the 90119-16006 - it states "this does not fit your 2000 Toyota 4Runner"> I mentioned this to the parts guy when I called there and ordered and he (and two other dealerships) assured me this is the correct part for my rig.
To Alumarine's question about Loctite, I intend to use a little bit of Blue Loctite when I install the bolt.

I purchased the FSM directly from Toyota Back in 2003. In the Owner's Manual, there was a number listed that you could call and order them. I think I paid somewhere around $250 for the set of three (3) manuals. I bought all the manuals for my rig. Not sure if they still sell them or not.

Start near the bottom of page 1, the older bolt number was only rated to be torqued to 184ft/lbs:
