Napa sucks-sucks-sucks

I gotta say it (and back it up) with facts. NAPA AUTO PARTS OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA sucks!!!! Really hoping some NAPA Exec reads this and goes to that store and snatches a knot in someone's tail.....

Part of this is my fault. Instead of buying a rebuild kit for my master cylinder from Toyota, I was in a hurry and I went to NAPA a couple of years ago and bought their “Professional Series” Master Cylinder. It just crapped out.

I called the store and asked if they could pull up my purchase. The lady there said “Oh, we don’t keep records of customer purchases!” I said; “Well, I ordered it online and picked it up. Are you telling me you have no way to track these wonderful warranties you offer?” She glibly responded that “We can’t track everyone’s purchase.” I never asked her to “track everyone’s purchases”…..I wanted to reach through the phone and……#& ^#%@.

So, that being said, I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM NAPA AGAIN! Perhaps it is an isolated incident for the back-asswards city of Montgomery, Alabama.

For those who are interested, my brakes have turned from being great to being hard as iron. I have been going through everything and turned out when I went to bleed the rear (starting at passenger side rear) there was no brake fluid coming out….

Fast forward….pulled a brake booster from a 1999 at PullAPart. Also put on an OE master cylinder….replaced the rear wheel cylinders….bleed and STILL STIFF brakes…..thinking it is one of my 13WE Tundra upgrade calipers…..stay tuned…..

Stiff brakes? That's a bad booster, or maybe stuck check valve to the booster.

NAPA doesn't track sales for warranties. Your receipt is your record for warranty. It's like that at all NAPA stores.

You bought it online. Meaning you also should have records of your purchase.

Am I the only one that has created folders in their email for exactly these types of things? I have my utility email receipt confirmation from 2012 LOL.

Ok. Maybe it is just me but if a company offers a "warannty" is it too much to expect them to maintain a record of what they sell and warranty?

I have been buying at the same NAPA since the 70s, and they have never done any tracking whatsoever of past purchases. Keep your receipts!!!

I'd say the onus is on the end user to keep track.
But I'm old school and like to be responsible for me.

I do return stuff and use the invoice on my phone if they've sent me one but don't expect them to keep it for me.

Maybe it's an age difference but if I lost a receipt I wouldn't expect anyone to honor a warranty or accept a return or exchange.

So you threw NAPA under the bus and went on a rant about one of their parts that you thought failed after a couple of years but turned out not to be the case? Not drinking enough Liqui Moly Mos2.

When you start the 4runner with your foot on the brake pedal does it travel down ever so slightly? Getting fluid at all four bleeders? How old are the brake lines?

I have to agree something as important as car maintenance it's up to me to keep receipts. I have a file box I keep maintenance records in for all my vehicles in doesn't matter if it's a rebuilt motor or a quart of ATF fluid and I keep the records for 24 months after I get rid of the particular vehicle. I'm not allowing someone else's computer system to crash and cost me thousands of dollars.

That's the same as having a new roof put on my house and leaving it up to the roofing company to keep records in my best interest when the roof fails 12 years into a 20 year warranty.

Second being the NAPA fan boy I am I feel the need to stick up for them. I have been buying from NAPA for 18 years in different places I have lived. I don't think I have ever had a bad experience at a NAPA with their employees or parts. My experience NAPA employees are generally more friendly and knowledgeable than O'Rileys or Auto Zone and for sure have a lower turnover rate. One of the two NAPA's I frequent the guy I like to deal with has been at that same location since the 70's. He will even deliver for free to my work place even though I'm not a auto repair facility. Super knowledge especially with some of the older vehicles I mess with. When I had my '65 C-10 this cat was a life saver a few times. Unlike O'Rileys where I was once told "uhhh sir they didn't have S-10's in '65. Chevy didn't start the S-10 until the late 80's"
