thanks for that link....always good to have another source for info as I will be doing rear bearings on this rig this summer...
last 2 I did I used MTBTM videos and had computer in garage with me and followed step by step

the first I did with a old 10 ton and it was ok but a push. sold it and got the 20 ton and it was no problem. I also have the tool that I bought direct from the guy who invented it.

there used to be a guy on this forum who loaned out the tool ...dont have that link

One thing to consider with these Harbor Freight hydraulic presses is the hardware they give you for the frame assembly. The first thing I did before assembly was to source reputable graded hardware. I replaced it all.

I look forward to hearing back on this. I got a HF 12 ton mainly for this reason (a just-in-case thing). I got my press for free, and it had never even really been used, so if it doesn't work, I am not out any money. It would be nice to learn if I should sell it and buy the 20 ton.

Had to do some home repair this break and so haven't gotten to the press yet. I'll post here when I do, won't be too long, needs to get done.

I'm almost ready to shift gears and dig into this project. I did look at my axles and the press today - the biggest issue will absolutely be the height of the press IMO. It may have enough clearance. Looks tight.

Just need to get through this week, may plan on next Saturday to dig into it.

Finally started my rear end rebuild. I pulled it all and am replacing all bushings, bearings and seals.

Short answer is that the 12ton HF press will not work out of the box. However with a relatively simple mod, it will work. I'm glad I was able to use mine.

To pull the bearing, I used the wheel bearing removal tool I bought from donald_the_bonald on ebay (the original design). Truly made this work a no-brainer. Couldn't recommend it enough. I also referenced mtbiketim's excellent videos and the adventuretaco instructional guide. Invaluable references, thanks gents.

Problem: The tool is too wide to fit between the 12ton HF press cross beam.

No matter what you do, it won't fit. One (unacceptable) option would be to cut the width of the tool down. I chose instead to cut a couple of 20" sections of 2"x2" square 12gauge steel tube that I had. No need to weld them together, in fact it was easier with them separate.

This worked great.

Cross beam support rods 4 holes from bottom

It all just fits. You have to make sure the bottle jack is at the top most, etc.

Summary: Using my 12ton HF press with some (light) modification, I was able to press out the ABS ring, bearings, bushings last night for four axles (had extras).

YMMV, depends if you have square tubing available, etc. For me it was "free".

HTH! I need to start a build thread.

Thanks for the update, along with the description of the problem to solve, and the pictures. It is good to know that it will work.

As a side note, when I bought my T4R about 14 years ago, an axle seal was leaking. Somehow, I replaced it with no special tools like this. My memory fails me on what I did, so I have no idea how in TF I did that job without having a tool like this back then.

It is good to now know that if another axle seal, or wheel bearing, goes out, that the HF press I already have (along with the wheel bearing removal tool that I would buy) would make it possible for me to do the job. I bookmarked this thread and the link for the wheel bearing removal tool, for future reference.

Thanks again.

Thanks for confirming that the HF 12-ton shop press would work. I split the cross beam in half and now the bearing tool works just fine.
