hood protector versions

Ok so thanks to a car wash I need to get a new hood protector/bug shield for my sport. The problem is Toyota discontinued the sport model (pt427-89990) but the one for every other model is still available (pt-427-89011). Does anyone know what the real difference between the two is? If it's just the bolt holes, I can make it work. The pictures I have seen with it installed on a non-sport model looks like it's the same shape. At one time I thought it was a different shape so the air would flow over the scoop more but I don't think that is the case.

Can't comment on whether the shape is identical, but my OEM bug deflector has been mounted to both a Sport hood and a non-Sport hood, so I know that the mounting hole locations are the same on both hoods.

need to get one for my 2001

found pictures of the OEM if anyone is interested in looks

Toyota 3rd gen OEM Hood Protector Bug Shield whistling noise is driving me nuts

( note, if you read the thread, whstiling noise was NOT due to hood prtector, it was just what I found for pictures)

I believe they are almost identical one just says Toyota and the other says AVS. Here is an older picture of mine with the Toyota one for comparison.

Here is the AVS one

My 2000 Limited Sport came with the bug defector shield but then broke off so I removed it. It was the original Toyota part.

The junkyard might have some on the hood of other 4Runners.

Speaking as a Catholic here I understand wanting to convert people but please exercise the virtue of prudence. You are just going to drive people away from conversion posting in the 4runner forums like this.

It's spam. I began reading and realized the user posted the same thing in a few other threads.

Sort of both...?

I dig the 90's unibrow style of them, and I did notice a marked difference
in the increased amount of bugs etc. getting splattered on the glass with it off.

I prefer the hood protectors because they keep the hood from getting all stone chipped up. There is a major difference in the paint damage to the hoods that run hood protectors and those that dont..

Agreed. I used to not like the look of them, but as time went on, they began to grow on me. Hence the reason I bought an AVS hood deflector a little over a year ago. It looks super clean in my opinion. Gives it a little more mmph.
