Make one with the tap-dance, change the ignition cylinder, then use Techstream to erase all (who knows how many are currently stored, the one that's in the ignition will be retained) and add the 2nd. I have 3, 2 Master that live in the safe, and 1 Sub that I use daily. I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't think 2 are enough... mostly because I've been burned with just 2 in the past.
Anyway, you have it easy since you have a master.

That's the best news I've heard all month! Thanks for the help! Now to decide If I'm going to have the ignition rekeyed to my original or replace with a new ignition cylinder

I think I need everything re-cored. The ignition takes one key, while the doors and hatch take a completely different key. The locks are "sticky" and at times are difficult to lock/unlock with the key. The remotes are long gone before I bought it.

Try graphite powder in your lock cylinders. That will lubricate the core and pins. I ulbe my cylinders once or twice a year and dont have issues with them.

Great thread the only thing I can add is on the lock cylinders side of this. Our passenger front door lock has the keycode.
You can also get your build sheet from almost any dealer provided you have your title with you. The build sheet will have the keycode as well as what it was when it left the factory. If someone changed the cylinders out. Then this information may not be accurate.
You can also get the build sheet from Toyota owners website if you have an account and register your VINS. I never got a keycode this way but I heard it can be done this way as well.

Yup, can be done (and is basically what I've done). Lots more involved than the link you quoted but I can help you out.
The one thing you absolutely must have is a chip key:
Toyota Transponder Key TOY43AT4 692062 89785-26020 which has a 4C transponder chip.
that's cut to your ignition so it'll physically function. If you don't have the key code on any paperwork, it can be found on the passenger door lock cylinder. It's a pretty easy thing to pull and check, usually a letter and 4 numbers.
Past that, we will need to pull the body ECU, do some soldering, some chip programming, more soldering, re-installation and then key programming.
I had 4 keys ready when I did this for myself because it's a lot of fuss to just have 1 key. One of my 4 (a cheap 2 for $10 ebay/chinesium key) was a complete failure so I ended up with 3. I'd highly recommend getting at least 2 keys, but your call. Dealer is expensive at $30/key but you know what you're getting.
Send me a private message with your contact info so we can touch base.

@ Team_Jake
Thank you for your input on this thread. I am still researching and planning on how to overcome my immobilizer issue ( need to virgin my 99T4R ECU to accept new keys)
You mentioned that you found a locksmith service that did this. Can you provide the name(s) or URL of the companies that you found that offer this service?

The guy who re-flashed my ECU is in San Diego, his name is Shy and he works for Prestige Locksmith. I don't know if he would do online orders or shipments or something like that, he came out to my location with his van and did everything there. If you are in the area then give him a call, otherwise if you want we could arrange something - you could ship both your A/T and M/T ECUs to me and have him do the same thing he did my ECUs. BTW, have you tried contacting
@ Brian.
, he claims he can re-flash your ECU, might want to try him first.

I'm just a hobbyist, learned what I know by doing it for myself. I don't Really want to get into this kinda of business and would prefer folks find local auto locksmiths. Plus, my life is blowing up right now, I'm not in the best position to help beyond wordy advice.
As for finding one, just start calling locksmiths listed in the yellow pages. Explain that you need a 93C56 EEPROM flashed/copied. They will most likely want to see your registration to prove ownership, but it's a nothing job with the right ($3000) tool. To maybe save a little on cost, have the glovebox off and ECU ready to come out with the 2nd one ready to be flashed.
The 2 main options are to Copy from the old to the new or to Virgin the new and train the keys. Copy is a shortcut of not messing with keys, but if you don't have a Master key (security light extinguishes Immediately upon being put into the ignition) then a Virgin setup will give you a Master and 1 or 2 slave keys. The Master is needed to train other new keys to the immo... it's the one you stick in the safe and never use.

Good stuff, thanks.
Between my 2000 Limited and my 2006 Limited Sequoia, it's the lock and entry systems that are giving me the biggest fits right now. Ill do my research here and this is a good help.
AN examplw of one of tehissues: on teh 2000 $Runner the key unlocks the passenger door but not the drivers. I guess I'll start with getting a new key cut?

@ Brian, Thank you very much… was on the same path but you did all the homework. Much appreciated.
Quick question:
I bought the car with only the grey valet key. It’s very worn… went to the dealership and had them make me a new key. As you’ve mentioned, the only difference between the new dealership key and old key is that the new key will lock the glove box.
Talked to a local locksmith today and he said he could clone the valet key with the teeth of the master. The system will still have it as a sub… do you foresee any problems with cloning? (Other than the cost of new cheap keys)
Also, what’s the part number for a new virgin chip. Confirm ic900.
Thanks in advance.
