Anyone have their old Nut Strips off their Hitch they want to part with? In good useable shape of course.
Can you be a little more specific on which nuts? Or a picture of which nuts you are referring too as there are several different types of hitches. Some being one piece and only having 8 mount bolts on it nothing more. ;-)
I made my own as well as I could not find a source for the oem ones.
For the rearmost ones that are welded to the inside of the frame itself I just took the nut and wedged it into a wrench with a piece of paper towel and held it in there as I threaded the bolt in as the original threaded pieces that were welded into the frame had to be cut out but if yours are still intact you don’t have to worry about them
Note that all "factory" hitches were port installed. I don't believe there was ever a Toyota part number for that hardware.
You can get hardware from Curt, but it's kind of expensive as I recall.
I salvaged a hitch off another 4Runner. Most of the bolts snapped when I was removing it. I bought some grade 8 nuts and bolts from Lowes, and then fished the bolts through the frame on some fishing line, shoving a fish tape through the hole, and dragging the bolt through. I was able to get a wrench on the front most one through an access hole in the frame. I skipped the middle one. Rear one was an easy to drop in.
I'll go poke around in the pile of bumper parts I have in the back yard tomorrow afternoon. I think they're in there but they were kinda crusty if I remember correctly.
