CV axle issue during suspension rebuild

During a complete suspension/steering rebuild while putting it all back together my drivers side CV axle pulled out not at the differential but at the joint/boot I can pull it way out and can’t push it back in towards the differential? But still solid in the front differential, I am ignorant on CV axles and have never dealt with them, Im learning.
Is the CV axle toast and need to be replaced or is my ignorance getting in my way, could of I pulled / muniplilated it out of wack replacing suspension bushings & joints?

Pictures would help, if you are able to take some.

How were you trying to remove the CV axle? Were you trying to pry or drive it out at the flange, or just yanking on it?

The inner part does slide off so you should be able to get it back together, but you'll likely need a re-boot kit.

Have a look at this video to get a better understanding for how CV axles work & how they should come out and go in.

I wasn’t trying to take the axle out, I think maybe it got pulled a little to much when moving the spindle around installing a upper ball joint? the boots still look intact, when I bought the truck a few years back the PO stayed he replaced both axles with Oriley brand, so they are not Orem axles.
Only lift have are OME 1” springs over the Oem 99 talls
 
It should not be a big deal just turn the hub one way or the other and it should slide back in. Just had this happen on my 2001 with a control arm rebuild
