A few tips about mufflers:
The longer the body, the more mellow the sound. Doesn't mean it's quiet, it just means that when you aren't getting on it the sound will be minimal but once you get on the gas it'll be noticeable.
Straight-through muffler designs or "glass packs" are generally louder and offer more performance gains than a stock baffled muffler.
The shorter the muffler the more it drones. You may not like how it sounds on long freeway drives if you go with a short one. Our exhaust pipe is closer to 2.25", so a 2.5" muffler is the correct size. I found that the center/offset fits best, similar to the stock muffler.
I had a Borla 2.5" muffler of similar size and really liked how it sounded. Low Rumble at idle, quiet enough on the freeway but really sounded good upon heavy throttle. My current one is a 14" body and it's very loud, a bit too loud to be honest.
For catalytic converters on the cheap, look at Magnaflow's product line. I have one on mine and passes emissions with flying colors and was only $199.99.
