Toyota Scan Tool (ABS bleed and SRS codes)?
Hey, anyone have any recommendations for a scan tool to read the airbag codes and perform ABS bleeds?

You aren’t going to find any aftermarket tool capable of that. The abs/airbag modules don’t communicate with any other module or through the Obd2 connector in the cab.
Edit: Toyota has an SST for abs pump activation

Special Service Tool. It’s “Toyota” for a tool required to service a part or component. All auto manufacturers have a version of this. Could be anything from an airbag diagnostic tool to a piston installer to a seal installer etc.

Check autoenginuity maybe. They do a ton of actuation stuff. I should be able to fire up mine sometime tomorrow evening and see if it does Toyota ABS. I know it did my 05' Ram.

What in the world would it be for on our abs though? I don’t even think you can communicate with it. Just use the shorting bar. Unless one of those positions runs the abs motor which I’ve been searching for off and on for years……

Any idea of the part number for that SST? (I might have to dig out my manual)
not opposed to buying a factory tool

I think the SST from Toyota can activate the pump and valves as needed, but it's probably been obsolete for so long I'm willing to bet most dealers don't even have it anymore. I think it actually plugs up to the abs motor to control it.

I don't have a clue, and my 2000 FSM isn't working to see if it's listed or referenced anywhere.

ok, found it - SST 09990-00150 for the ABS ACTUATOR (now just need to find one) EDIT - part number superseded to 09990-00141
also, the SRS code check is on DI-364 through DI-366 of my '96 Manual (paperclip method)

To bleed the ABS, drive on a dirt road/gravel road and brake to lockup the wheels (CHECK BEHIND YOU before you step on the brakes), Do multiple rounds and then bleed at the wheels. I did this to my 2000 landcruiser and it worked. Many advice to use a scan tool to bleed the brakes in this manner, but dirt road method works too!

Unfortunately, I need to be able to diagnose & bleed in the shop environment - because of my location.
