Winch Control Box Location

I recently installed an Addicted Offroad Plate bumper on my 2000 limited. I am now looking at installing a winch. As with most of these bumpers and winches you run out of room for the control box to attach directly to the winch. I am not going to cut my grill if at all possible.

Any recommendations or ideas on where it should go?

I moiunted my control box in the passenger wing of the bumper. Kind of tight but I didn’t have to extend the wires to the control box. My buddy has his mounted where the cruise control goes.

I mounted mine inside engine bay RH side, mounted controller plug recepticle in grille.
Depending on winch clutch lever location you will need to clock it, cutting grille cross bar is necessary.
AOR bumper & 96-98 grille works without cutting grille.

Okay, thanks. I was wondering about having to cut the grille. Based on my measurements, there is no way to get the winch in there w/o cutting the grille. I have the same grilles as yours shown.

Unmount the control box from the winch, and stick it off to the side where you have some space. That's what I did for my hidden winch mount under the stock bumper.

Mine's on the front of the core support, driver's side behind the grill mounted vertically. IIRC, I had to remove the overflow tank for the radiator to mount it there and then reinstalled the overflow.

You probably know, remove grille mount winch install grille
Amount you have to trim going to vary with winch used, Smitty one of smaller ones.
Mounting location high n dry is best, some went bumper wing, water crossings don't mix well with that.

I have an enclosed top plate bumper, so I was able to fit the control box behind the grill (some trimming on the back - the front is still original) bolted to the top of the bumper. Had to make/modify a couple brackets. I do have to pop the hood to attach the controller - but it keeps prying eyes/hands away from it the rest of the time.

I extended the wires on my Warn contact box and mounted it to the firewall driverside by the wheel-well, and ran the controller inside the cab, this way I can run it from inside the cab and reach the winch to spool out with controller in hand. The contact box stays high and dry aswell in this location and controller is always connected.

I mounted my Badlands controller behind the grill using a bracket I made mounted to the center support in front of the radiator.
