Installing 01-02 sport flares on a 99 SR5

I've been searching and reading some of the older threads. But there's not a lot out there other than what @Blcktgpsr has posted on his 3rd gen project from what I could find.

Looks like there's a certain body clip that lends it self well to attaching the 01-02 flares that works with round drill holes.

Anyone done this? Trying to future proof my 99' for larger tires. The newer flares should make tire 34" tire figment way easier and not require me to shorten my sliders or have to do some unsightly trimming of the current 99' sport flares.

It seems like the vast majority of people just go without flares to not deal with the headache. The way that the 99 flares mount would definitely be a challenge for bigger tires. Same with the Bushwacker flares.

Anyone done it? Did you use the transfer method to get your mount placement or did you build a template? Other things to know? Am I out of my mind?.....lol

I put limited bumpers fenders doors on 1998 sr5. I did it the easy way. By swapping all the parts. Then just bolted the rear fender flares to the body. I did drill 2 holes to nolt that one piece of fender flare on.

I have attached flares with just silicone until it was fully cured they stay on.

You know, I didn't really consider adhesive.

The limited flares attach to the lip of the fender don't they?

Don't drill holes, use 3M double sided tape to glue it to to the body. Those are strong and I have these used in window visors in the Hilux for ages now.

Yes the limited flares attach to the lip. The bottom of the fenders, rockers, doors and back flares have holes. I wouldn't drill holes in the body panels. I adhesive them on, or use silicone to hold them on. I only drilled 4 holes for the rear fender wells to hold that body panel on. But its on one that was really rusty so it didn't hurt anything. IF you do that you have to pull your cargo plastic out to get in there to put bolts through. Good adhesive would hold this fine.. :-)

I to believe the sport flares are the same as the early years limited flares. along with a variant or 2.. I like the largest ones as they keep the rig cleaner. :-)

I actually have a roll of that stuff in the garage. Pretty incredible stuff really.

The nice thing about the 3M adhesive is that it never fails all at once. You can usually see it letting go slowly.
