It's most likely not the springs in the clock. It's some of the resistors on the back. If you heat up each end with a soldering gun and reflow the solder your clock will work normally again.

Thanks. I'll take a look one day when I eventually drop that part of the dash.
Is there anything under the hood that could be responsible, say drivers side near the firewall? I was sitting there idling to warm up and heard a wooshing noise then the clock came to life. Weird I know... could be unrelated. What's the technical term for wooshing noise?
