Dropping my 4runner off for a paint job. Still undecided on what color!
My 2002 clear coat is driving me crazy. I'm dropping it off Monday, and have another day to decide which color. I'm strongly leaning towards Quicksand from the newer Tacomas, but I also like Lunar grey. What other colors look good on the 3rd gens?

Autumn Blaze. It was a factory color that was special order. I've only seen a few ever and my wife's family she used to nanny for owned one. Then it broke down and he sold it to his mechanic before I had a chance to buy it!!!

Unless they are also doing the door jams and under the hood, paint it the same factory color

I was wondering if anyone was going to suggest the obvious...

Jams yes, engine no. It’s currently silver, which is why I’m now leaning towards lunar grey or cement grey.

Speaking of clearcoat decay, seems like just about all of us are seeing that or will experience that soon. I am not really caring as I keep mine looking a little ratty, but are there measures short of a repaint that can stop it?

I would go with the original color myself.

Lets maybe see some non-3rd gen colors that are still factory on other Toyota/Lexus rigs... I'd like to open the discussion to Lexus Nori Green.

Well, with just silver it honestly wouldn't look terrible if the engine bay was grey and the rest of the vehicle was a different color. Most of the dual color 4Runners were another color and silver, so the cladding and fenders were silver and then the other color for the rest. I don't think it would look weird to have a silver engine bay and another color for everything else if you really liked it.
I do agree about the door jams though. I saw a 4runner that was a green like imperial jade but when I opened the door to get inside the door jams were a different color and stuck out so bad it kinda ruined the effect. Engine bay wouldn't do that though for me.
At the end of the day, we are just dudes on a internet board, it's your 4Runner!

If that's your thing... it's your car
Personally I think Toyotas newest grays are just dolled up primer, kinda like Ford's "lead foot". But again it's not my car
