The differential is the same is what I have seen. The axle housing is different, but you could use the carrier that you pictured. I believe all the prerunners had 4.10 gears.

You need to make sure the gear ratio is the same as yours (if yours is 4x4) otherwise you will destroy your t-case if you try to use 4x4. You'll need to modify your housing to make room for the elocker motor. I don't know how you didn't find anything by searching, it's a heavily covered topic. I typed in "3rd gen 4runner elocker retofit" in google and here's what came up:
3rd gen 4runner elocker retrofit - Google Search
The 6th one down (at this time) is an entire write up so maybe try different word combos when you're searching.

Unless he's 4x2 or wants to regear the front diff to 4.30s. Most of the Tacoma elockers are 4.10 and most of the open diff 3rd gens are 4.10 so a tacoma elocker would most likely be the best match.

So i need some help to clear up the confusion.
looked at the axle codes. got pissed. decided to consult yall.
i have a code of VZN185L-GKMGKA
it says 4.10 for 265's
and 3.90 w/out
my door jamb also has 225's showing for tire pressure. question is, how many of yall bought yours with 265's brand new with this code. I just want to make sure that its correct. im not the 1st owner so i dont know what the truck came with.
according to the details i have, i "technically" have 3.90's. i just feel like there's no way though. i should be moving wayyyy slower. and i have put 33's on before and its not too bad.

You can't rely on the codes and online charts. You need to either count the driveshaft revolutions or the # of teeth on the gears to be sure. Otherwise you are taking your chances.

The tire size in the door jamb is the best documentation for gear ratio. Sounds like you have the 3.90

I thought all 3rd gens say 225/15s on the door jam, no? Mine does (even though it came with 265/16s) and I had 4.10s before I regreared.

No, mine says 265/16. Yours is odd since you know you had 4.10s. I wonder if you have the smaller brakes too? LINY didn't know his gear ratio for awhile since he had an SR5 with 16s and his door jamb said 225/15 iirc. Apparently someone had added the 16s after and it could have even been the dealer. Those 15 steelies are rare
Edit: I forgot LINY swapped the wheels himself. I remember seeing pics of the silver steelies. He definitely had an SR5 though which most incorrectly assume has 4.10s by default.

Yeah, it's not safe to assume anything has 4.10s by default. I've seen oddballs of all types, but I do think that 4.10s is most likely what the OP has. 3.90s are pretty rare in 4x4 3rd gens, LINY's is one of a small handful I have ever heard of. It's definitely not rare to have a 225/15 door tag and 16" wheels and brakes like me. I've seen this topic come up before and lots of people seem to have that. All the door tags I've looked at in junkyards and such as well as friend's trucks say 225/15s, but all the ones I've seen still had the 16" wheels/brakes. I do believe it was a dealer option, but it seems as though most dealers did upgrade them. It could have been a factory thing too and they just didn't bother to change the door tag. If that door tag/wheel/brake size is uncommon in your area, I'm wondering if it may be a regional thing??
