Steering rack bushings

With 261,000 miles I think it's time to replace the steering rack bushings. I have some play in my steering. The only suspension parts I have replaced have been the tie rod bushings and the sway bar bushings. All the ball joints are original, but when I get the wheels aligned, the mechanics never say I have any problems with them.

My question is: What are the characteristics of worn steering rack bushings?

Read the last couple days worth of posts, there are a couple stories of catastrophic failure of the LBJ's causing alot of damage and danger. If you have 261k on the original LBJ's, then just replace them no matter how good they look.

The steering rack bushings might not be your steering wobble problem. I replaced my bushing, and now the wobble is just getting worse. I will probably be doing the LBJ's and TRE's this weekend, as well as possibly replacing the steering rack guide. they are all also sources of wobble.
