Update on my 4Runner mods
Just a little update on some things I have done to the 4Runner.
As I posted a few weeks ago I did the 231mm Tundra brake upgrade. What a difference. Very happy with it. Well worth the money.
I also happened to be in the right place at the right time when one of the local salvage yards was hauling in a 99 Limited that had rolled over. I got the front and rear talls coils with the front struts and installed them in mine. Raised it about 1-3/4"'s. looks and rides alot better now. (in the pic it looks low in the rear but it's just the the way it's sitting on uneven ground.)
Today I finally got to put my TRD stickers and pinstripping on. I also painted the 1" flares I picked up for $10.00. Painted them to match the truck. Not installed yet but hopefully next weekend.

Gonzo, did you have 16" wheels to begin with? I have the same tundra wheels you have on my 2000 2wd - but mine came with 15" wheels. I'm planning on doing the 231mm upgrade as well - just trying to work it all out in my mind. My latest thought is if I will need to get new bearings with the tundra rotors - in case the ones on my smaller rotors won't transfer over ....

You can't do the 231mm or 199mm with "15 wheels, the tundra uses "13 rotors as well. You need "16 rims to be able to do the TBU.

I'm not real happy with the Taco bumper. The ends don't line up with the bumper so it leaves the end of the plastic inner wheelwell showing, also the center of the bumper is straighter the the 4runner bumper so it's real close to being even with the bottom of the grille
I will find a good 4runner bumper assy at some point

I got the strut assy.'s with springs out of the 99 and rear coils. the fronts bolted right in no problem and rears I had to use a spring compressor to fit them up into place without unhooking the swaybar to get more down travel on the rear axle. Took me maybe 1.5 hrs. to change.
Where in NH are you?

Mine also had 15" rims when I bought it. The 16" Tundra rims I bought right after getting the 4runner. Everything fit good. Only thing I had to do was trim the backing plate to clear the calipers. Mine are just slip on rotors so nothing to do with the bearings. As far as 2wd I couldn't tell you. You say you have the 16"s like mine so they should clear.

Cool - thanks Gonzo - I'm looking forward to doing the mod - my brakes are shaking now, but I don't have the cash to get everything yet. Us guys that had the smaller stock 15" wheels to begin with should see the maximum performance change in going to 231's.
