yeah i was thinking about that and i'm even considering getting some tarp material to make this a water/rain proof set up as well, thinking about making a big tarp thing that simply slides over the hatch when it's up and draps down to the ground with some of this mesh attached to snug up the material to the truck, it would make a sort of big room to change your clothes shower or what ever, something kind of like this but made for my runner and it drops all the way to the ground....gotta give it to the vw guys their creativity never ceases to amaze me!
or something like this but using the rear hatch as a roof/lid to make it a fully water proof and enclosed to the runner.

I had a metal pipe frame that used to be the roof frame for a porch swing (it was covered with canvas?) Anyhow, it's about 5' x 4' with rounded corners and comes apart into 4-pcs that fit nicely into my luggage area. I painted it white, then hooked a chain to the middle of one 5'side and put a special hook on the other end of the chain that grabs the latch mechanism on the rear hatch. The other side of the frame rests perfectly over the hatch arms.
I got three cheap shower curtains for $1/ea and some matching plastic rings and hooked it up like this. I added three duct tape tabs on the bottom so it could be staked down if windy.
A shallow Rubbermaid tote with snap-on lid makes a nice way to carry the curtain, the solar shower (it fits in even when filled), shampoo, towels, etc. When using the shower, the tote becomes the shower "floor" to keep you out of the mud or grass, and the lid makes a smooth surface for the shower bag to sit up on the roof rack. I changed out the hose so it's about 3' long - This makes it much easier to use.
I'm rather surprised how well this works! The area is big enough to put the porta-potti as well - I guess I can now call it a bathroom!

post stolen from another site, but i have done this on my vw and it works great, i don't use the plastic tub to catch the water i just pull the bus further ahead into the dry bit. so with something like this you can have a little changing room a shower and extra leg room when your sleeping, i just need to look at whats the best way for adapting this sort of thing to the runner.
any ideas?
