Are you talking about VSC (vehicle skid control) or ATRAC (active traction control)? The ATRAC is a limited slip that uses the ABS, and will not hinder you from getting unstuck - the oppiste in fact, it will help. The VSC is the one that might interfere with getting unstuck. It uses a combination of braking and throttle control to correct over or under steer. Being stuck can fool the system into taking power away from the wheels with most traction. The CDL (centre differential lock) turns VSC off, and I think the 08-09 models have a seperate VSC off button. In most situations where you would want the VSC off, you will also want CDL on.
