My rear wiper has a mind of its own!

Hey guys, hopefully someone else had my current issue in the past and knows how to fix it. Recently I have noticed when I open and close the trunk then get in the 4R and start it the rear wiper wipes once. If I do not open the trunk before starting the 4R it does not wipe. I think the door closing make the wiper think it is not in it's rest position so it wipes to reset itself. Anyone know if there is a sensor or something I can replace to fix this? Thanks!

Try opening and closing the rear window. There is a sensor that prevents the wiper from moving when the rear window is down. Try unplugging the battery and see if that resets the wiper. If not, could also be a switch issue.

Well raising and lowering the window didn't do squat. I pulled the battery left it off for 10-15 minutes the reconnected it all. As soon as I hooked up the positive terminal the alarm went off and scared the hell outta me. After all that the car wouldn't start! I jumped it off my other car and it fired right up. But after letting it run for a while it wouldn't restart itself without a jump. WTF! So I got it back in the garage and we will see if it starts tomorrow morning. I wonder if disconnecting it some how exploited a bad cell in the battery. It is OEM with 65000 miles and 5 hot summers under its belt. Could it be time for a new one?

I think your battery was on its way out. Try replacing the battery and see if it helps.

Other owners reported similar problems before.

Strange rear wiper issue

You usually have to drive the vehicle for a few miles after jumping it. Your battery is gone- you got a decent life out of it. Still not sure how that relates to your rear wiper issue though.

Just had my battery crap out on me while driving (due to a bad alternator). One of the things I noticed was that when I would try to start my truck, the rear wiper would start. It sounds like your battery is on it's way out. Good luck!!
