Getting coins out of the CD player???

My almost 2 yr old son thought the CD palyer would be a good place to keep my spare change, instead of the center console. Now some of the coins went into the unit and it engages the CD player when you make a turn:rant:

Anyone have any experience in shaking loose change out of a unit or should I just take it as a sign to buy an after market one?

LMAO!!!!!!.....I am so sorry man, but i am belly laughing about this. I have 5 year old twins and could have seen them doing this exact same thing. I am not sure how hard it would be to take the stereo out of the dash, but that might be worth a try. If you end up buying a new stereo, make sure you keep that one in a box (with the change still in it), tucked away in a closet somewhere. I would keep it and give it to him for his 16th Birthday.....Hope it isn't too bad.
 
Its not hard to remove the stereo from the dash, tearing it apart on the other hand, I wouldn't know for this unit exactly, but other OEM units I have torn apart for spare bits usually are fairly easy to do.
 
I second the idea of the birthday present. And i would take this oppurtunity to get a new headunit. What better reason could there be?
 
This gives me an idea. Maybe if i give my twins some tools and some bullseye markings, then leave them alone in the garage for a little bit, they could take care of my Xreas. This way i would have an excuse for replacing it.....lol
 
For the ones wedged right in the front, a strong magnet should be able to pull them free, for ones down in the unit, you'd have to take the whole unit out and rip it apart, having done this on other units, I wouldn't recommend it
 
Looks to me like a good excuse to upgrade your stereo! Look at the Scion HU's that are compatible with our T4R's. Most are plug-n-play and sounds 100% better than the stock HU. Plus, they can be found for cheap on eBay and the like...just a thought
 
I would remove the HU (not bad at all (5min if you have the tools out)

and after using the rattle method I would try and open up a side or (cut a small quarter sized slot out and boom! buy yourself a stick of gum!:D)


I got a replacement HU from a member here on the forum for $50 maybe its not worth your time to fish for quarters or maybe you can convince teh wife to let you upgrade to that NAV unit you been eying...

SORRY GUYS MAGNETISM WILL NOT WORK HERE quarters are made of (Copper & nickel) which both have a relatively low magnetic disposition.:violin:
 
The front coins came out easy enough and I was able to eject the disc too. Its just those loose ones that keep tricking the unit to look for a disc taht are driving me cray!!

New HU it is!
 
You can take the metal surround off of the actual radio, its a b.... but can be done to access the cd player internals. I took mine apart but never got it back together, so you have been warned
 
Pickingout an HU is more confusing than wheels/tires/suspension set ups!

I dont want to spend more than 300, but that doesnt get me all the options I want without jumping to 500+, blah, blah, blah...

And HU posts are just like opinions and a holes; everyones got one ;-)

I'll figure something out sooner or later. But I'm glad my son and I could give a few of you a chuckle...
 
Take it out and take it apart. the steel shell should come off, usually in a couple of sections. cant hurt if your planning on replacing it.
