Hi,
**I'm asking mainly if it's the norm to haggle**
I know it sounds dumb, but here's the quick story. Radiator was cracked and I've been topping it off little by little until now. I have time today, so I figured I'd finally replace it.
Usually I like to buy OEM stuff. However, when I called Toyota (two dealers locally) I got a quote of $875 and $860 just for the radiator
The second guy however said "Hey, if you want...I can get you a discount if you pay cash." and said he'd get it for $600 for me. Not sure why cash made a difference, but anyway, I asked if he could do $500 (all I had in my wallet, lazy to go to the ATM) and he said "Sorry." I thanked him for the offer but well, $250 vs. $600. I'll take a chance.
Now, I almost bought it (the Toyota version) honestly, and this got me wondering though, do dealers parts pricing structures work the same as selling a new car? I mean, can you haggle them down normally to "close the deal" so to speak? I'd gladly paid $500 for a radiator straight from Toyota, but $800 was way over the top.
I've been a parts guy at Autozone before, but never at a dealer, so I wonder if that's the case to "making the store profitable" or what.
Sorry, just curious.
Thanks!
