Tired of Frozen calipers? Installed Ceika BBK

I have been a long time lurker on this site but never really contributed much since I purchased my 4runner in 2007. My truck has an amazing 270k on the clock with zero issues except for the dreaded frozen calipers.

I have replaced about 8 calipers in a span of 6 years"thanks for the autozone lifetime warranty" but this time I had enough. My calipers, yes both of them froze up on a 500mile trip. My gas mileage went from 340 a tank down to 230 a tank.

In the past from my research on this forum, I would remove the lower piston on the autozone rebuilt caliper and use high temp grease around the piston. This helped and extended the life of the caliper but still managed to freeze on me.

Another forum member posted a link to the Ceika BBK kit for the 4runner and I decided to take the plunge and try them out. They are pricey but I'm sick and tired of messing around with crappy calipers and warped rotors.

I went with the 330x32mm two piece semi floating kit! The install was straight forward a little amount of trimming is required of the dust shield to clear the new caliper nothing crazy.

Fit and finish is amazing on these and they weigh probably less than half as the OEM set up.

My braking performance is night and day compared to the OEM system. Smooth as butter after bedding in the pads, better peddle modulation and most importantly almost zero pad drag.

I would say the customer service from the Ceika team is top notch, they are very professional and answer all and any questions as fast as possible.

Anyway enjoy the pics and I will enjoy my new setup and never worry about seized up pistons from OEM calipers again.

So how much? 4 piston or 6 calipers?

can you share where you bought them from and cost? is yours a sport or limited? not sure if i missed it but what comes with the kit? and lastly warranty information?

sorry for the questions but i just went through what you did with a double frozen set after less than a year of replacing them and am very frustrated.

5th gen ! ?

My vehicle is a 2007 V8 sport. I went with the 4 piston to keep the cost down as much as possible. The kits are custom made so you can go with 6 piston or whatever size rotors you want as long as you have the wheel clearance. The price is dependent on what you choose as far as colors, material and size. They list a generic build price on the website. I paid a little extra for Stainless Steel pistons and $80 extra for the rotor hat becuese they needed to fabricate a taller hat for the 4runner application.

Holy poop those are expensive. They look very nice and high quality though. Looking forward to a report on them in a few years.

So around $1,500-1,600? Not a bad price for a BBK, I believe Stoptechs with 2-piece rotors cost well over $2k and AP Racing is like $3500.

Centric rotors & 5th gen calipers when I do 05 ! I mean really need all that to stop ?

If you have a slight vibration in the steering wheel while braking or if you have poor gas mileage chances are the lower set of pistons on the right or left caliper have seized up.

You can quickly check if you take the pads off of the caliper and depress the upper pistons flush with the caliper and try the same thing with the lower set of pistons. All pistons should be able to retract with out much effort flush with caliper walls.

only issue i have with my brakes is they arent as firm as i would prefer

My fronts are to the point where there's a shimmy from the steering wheel at highway cruising speeds and pulsation when braking, definitely affecting my mileage. I know it's the front calipers at fault, had the same vibration (but a lot worse) on my Tundra before...story below

When I brought my Tundra home from the dealer after getting a frame replacement it had a violent shake from the front wheels after about 5 minutes of driving, I thought they forgot to tighten the wheels down. I pulled over to check and they were tight, but the wheels were pretty warm. When I finally got home I took the front wheels off and couldn't compress the pistons. These were remanufactured calipers from Pep Boys, only a few years old. Luckily I had another pair of remans I planned to use on my 3rd-gen.

A 4th gen with 270k getting a $2k brake upgrade? You do realize, you put in as much into the truck as it's probably worth? haha.

Looks great! And believe it or not, you probably have a lot of miles left on that baby and anything for the truck we love unconditionally, right?

I know lol! My girlfriend said the exact same thing. Lucky for me if I ever upgrade to a 5th gen or a gx460 even a 6th gen if it ever comes out I can just swap these onto it. Toyota uses the exact same spindles that the calipers mount to across most of 120 platform.

Just checked Kelly Blue Book has it worth around 10k haha

I looked at many options and all of them were 2k or more. These I can honestly say are probably on par with the other brands.
