Was the hassle and labor worth it, saving a bunch, instead of buying new OEM ones and just simply replacing them? OEM seal kits and even pistons are pretty cheap.
With 216K, I just had to replace my pads and rotors, which were badly worn. I had put probably 100K on those rotors. The outer piston boots on my calipers have pretty much disintegrated, so I expect that either a piston will seize or a leak will develop, at some point in the foreseeable future. It has lived its entire 25 year life in FL and GA, and I doubt it has ever been up in the Salt Belt, so underside corrosion has never been an issue at all.
I really don't want to put aftermarkets on a critical part. I watched Timmy's video on doing the job, and I have the tools and abilities to do the job, from what I can tell.
If the pistons are in good shape and the seals are replaced with new OEM ones, isn't the finished product just about as good as a brand new one?
But, maybe I get it all apart and discover that I need 8 new pistons, too. Then, the price starts going way up, and with the labor, might not be worth the smaller (then) savings.
I will wait until either my brake light comes on, or I notice a leak, before I do the job, but I wanted to already have a plan in mind.
