I've been shopping roof racks all weekend during the black Friday/cyber Monday sales, I've narrowed my search down to the Sherpa Princeton and the Frontrunner Slimline II. I'm leaning towards the Sherpa Princeton, however I am curious is if there's enough clearance between the roof and the crossbars to mount a Yakima Skybox? I've seen pictures of the Yakima Skybox mounted to the Frontrunner, but not sold on the 3/4 size of their rack for the 4th gen 4Runner.

I don't think clearance should be an issue...I'll measure mine today and report back.
Update: okay, better late than never, right? Here ya go:
1. Over the sunroof about a foot in from driver's door (2 1/2"):
2. Over the front and rear seats also about a foot in (1 5/8"):
3. Over center rear (1 5/8"):

Thank you for posting that, I believe that should be just enough clearance...the bottom clamps on a Yakima Skybox are about an inch thick. I ended up ordering the Sherpa rack since they were on sale, figured worst case scenario I could always sell it if it doesn't have enough clearance for my attachments. Would be nice if they offer a low or high clearance option on their roof racks, I would think it'd be pretty simple to do with just taller mounting feet and taller side panels. I can see people who have to worry about garage clearance wanting low profile racks, but I'm sure there's plenty who don't and would like an extra inch or two of clearance to work with under the crossbars.

Thanks for your order! Another option you may be able to do to mount the Skybox is to remove the clamping mounts underneath and directly bolt through the skybox into t nuts inside the crossbars. I have never seen the way they mount but I assume it is similar to the Yakima ski racks and this is the method we often use. It creates a nice secure way that is also harder for thieves to remove as well, but very simple if you plan to take it on and off.

DAMMIT I just bought a Prinsu...this looks so much beefier and I like the attention to detail with the rubber.

Either sell, or return the Prinsu if you can. This is a superior product for sure.

return it! I don't own one, but went by the shop not too long ago to pick something else up- it's top notch man. Materials and assembly are high quality.

Definitely want to go with one of these for my 4R. Co-worker has a 3rd gen and recently got a Sherpa rack for it.
Any chance you guys can come up with a rack solution for 1st gen extra cab Tacomas as well? I have a 1999 that I wouldn't mind having a roof rack for that doesn't require drilling into the roof to install.

I love the design of the rack. Any chance of an upcoming sale/promotion by chance? I have been holding off of buying a roof rack for so long now because of the cost, but that wait is getting long in the tooth.

We don't have any plans for a sale at this time. With that being said we do offer discounts for service members and first responders. Reach out through the website and we will make sure to get you taken care of if you haven't been already.

If anyone stuck at home has any questions about the rack shoot us a message, or better yet reply here so others can see it.
Quarantine has slowed things down a bit so we have some time to clear up questions and chat with the community!

With cabin fever affecting everyone at the moment, what better time to pick up a roof rack or drawer system to kick off a summer of adventures. We are running a 12% off stimulus sale on all of our products. The savings are auto-applied at checkout. If you know us, you know we do not run sales often, so don't miss out on this opportunity to save some valuable cash!
This being said, we are still on a statewide stay at home order here in Colorado, meaning that your lead times do not start until April 27th, and this does have the possibility to be extended.
Feel free to reply, call or email us with any questions.
