65 vs 70

I am in the market for some new tires. Going to have Taco TRD front shocks and springs and a 1" spacer plate for a total of 2" lift.

Rear going with FJ springs and new shocks with whatever size spacer to achieve a level stance.

That being said should I go with a 6 5series tire or a 70 series tire?
The 70 series is about 1" taller than a 65 series tire.

Note: I will get the tires before the lift so I do not want to rub.
I will also get wheel spacers to widen the stance a bit.

There’s a lot of factors to be accounted for, but having personally gone down this path and chosen the 26/70/17s, I’d never go back. Changing the offset will likely cause rubbing more than just going up to that size. I’m mildly lifted AND have a more aggressive offset of +1mm, instead of the +30mm of the stock wheels. I had very minor rubbing in the front which was easily solved by removing the mud flaps, and moving the wheel well liners forward a bit at the front bumper. When I rolled the 265/70 Wildpeak tire next to my existing 265/65s, I was sold instantly.

I have a 2004 4Runner Sport V8 4x4
I just installed Falken Wildpeak AT3 LT265/70/17 today. Extremely happy (new car feeling). Very aggressive look. 4Runner is completely stock. I have no rubbing at full turn, X Reas Suspension still ☹️ But 300k miles and going strong.
LT version tire is 31.9". 4/32"more tread depth than P version. 138.00 per tire I could not pass it up.

The Wildpeaks are the tire I am looking at! I am going to roll with the stock wheels for now and I really like the price on Amazon for these! Thanks for the awesome feedback Terminator03!

I will look into those. BTW I also have the XReas suspension that is working fine @187K miles. However, I will be eliminating it when I go with new suspension!

I was looking into suspension last night. It's my project for next spring. (After I get married I'm told) Bilstein 5100 leveling suspension set is what I'm leaning towards. I'll be looking forward to the extra clearence.

I’m really happy with my 265/70/17 Wildpeaks, and Discount Tire Online matched (slightly beat) Amazon’s price, shipped them for free to local Discount Tire and it ended up being ~$600 out the door total installed.

I just ordered My 265/70/17 Wildpeaks! From Amazon. Shipped to My buddy's shop. Mounted and balanced for a total of $610.00
Now I have a serious issue to take of..... Check it out in the Classifieds. I name a scammer and a lier from Georgia!

damn that is a crazy good price installed. I just ordered some Ko2 from Costco for about $900(after discount too) installed.... I'm gonna have to consider the wildpeaks if its $300 less.

I almost went KO2, but after much research and review reading, I came to the conclusion that they were not $300 better in quality, traction, noise rating, etc. in several categories the Wildpeaks were slightly better. After driving through snow and ice last winter, and every situation since, I have zero regrets!

Look into the falkens.. I’m also debating size.. will be doing a 2” lift soon and I’m looking at 275/70/17 wondering how 265/70 will handle and look?

265/70 will handle & look almost exactly like a 275/60 will... its only a 10mm width difference.

Definitely never thought of that size but seems super skinny, 260/75/17 prob be skinniest I would go, but in your opinion why would someone want to go skinnier per say ? What advantages? Cost etc? Keep in mind I’ll be throwing in a mild 2”lift ..

yeah, scope some google searches on '4th gen 4runner 255' and youll see a lot of results, image tab that search. they arent super skinny...i think 12" wide total (might be wrong). theyre 33s unlike what many people run on here (perhaps the two options you referenced in fact arent 33s) theyre lighter, cheaper. i am going to stick with this size probably, with the v6, sliders, tire carrier full size spare...have to keep her lean or else too inefficient in my opinion.


not to mention: i found an obscure, raw, unpolished footage of one a 4runner with 255/75 go through literally the most terrain and obstacles of any ive ever seen. ill try to find it; so they perform is what i meant. i run the tires on FJ 15mm offset rims and old man emu low lift
