Fishing Rod Holder (interior)

So I wanted a easy way to hold a few rods on the inside of my 08. I found a post of a 3rd gen doing pretty much exactly what I did but I thought I would show a little more in depth on a 4th gen.
(Original post of a 3rd gen)>>Need Idea for Fishing Rod Holder - Trunk

Here is what you will need.
1. Fishing Rod Carrier (I used "Booms Fishing VRC Vehicle Rod Carrier" found on Amazon)
2. 2 D ring anchors (Can be found at just about any hardware store)
3. 4 Screws

I went ahead and attached the front strap to the handles in the back seats then used that to mock up where to drill for the anchors. It really depends how long your rods are for where you want to set up your anchors. I put tape on where I needed to mark measurements so I could draw on my headliner without marking it permanently.

Once you know where to drill it's pretty simple from there; just drill in the brackets and attach the strap.

I am very satisfied with the results, hopefully this helps someone out there. Best of luck!

Nice, have you tried this on any kind of bumpy road? Wondering how much they move around. What length of screw did you use?

The screws I used were 1 1/4 inch but that's only because its what I had laying around. Anything should work just fine but I wouldn't go over 1 1/4 inch. You're pretty much screwing into cardboard so keep that in mind. I just installed this yesterday so I cannot say how well it works on a bumpy road, I will update when I can.

I did something similar, except i mounted the d rings behind the coat hook in the cargo area and just used bungues on the handles up front.

Drilling holes makes me a little nervous, but I do like the rack idea.

I used to place my rods on the center console with the tips going out the back window, then two summers ago I was driving to the boat dock from our campsite with my wife, when she hit the up button on the window, resulting in two expensive rods destroyed. Never will I have a rod out the back window again.

That looks pretty good. Please do post back about bumpy roads. I just lay rods and use a twisty wire tie to hold them to the passenger headrest. This keeps them prom bouncing around and from the tips smacking each other.

Nice set up. Twist ties are a great thought, or possibly velcro for less wobble?

So after some more riding around I have a better understanding of what it's like to drive with poles. The main concern was how much they bounce around on a bumpy road but they aren't really that bad in my honest opinion. They move around a little as expected but not to a point where it's annoying, just make sure the straps are tight and you should be fine. When you are up to speed the tips of the rods do jiggle around but you don't really notice it after driving around for a minute or two. The only thing I did notice that bothered me is that with somewhat heavy breaking and accelerating the rods do slide; not enough to make them fall out of the loops or anything but just enough to bother me. The back loops are Velcro so I tightened them around the rods. That helped fix the sliding and hold them in place, no issues at all. I never really have but I'm sure if you put rod sleeves on the poles it would negate almost all of those problems. I am still very happy with the install and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. My only tip is to purchase the same straps I bought or one that has Velcro to hold the rods from sliding like mine. Good luck to everyone who might install!

Easy fishing rod holder for interior of my 2000 T4R.

Here is an easy way to carry a few rods inside without any major mods. Get the "DecoScrews" from Target, found with the picture-hanging stuff. Drill a couple of tiny holes in the plastic of your 4runner and use these screws to mount plastic cable holders as seen in the pictures. You can pull a 2 ft. bungie between them and be done with it.
Or,
Because the bungie will sag with weight, I stretched some picture hanging wire between small carabiner clips and then covered the wire with plastic hose (use smaller hose than what I had on hand}. I also used a small turnbuckle(?) to keep it tight. I used velcro to keep the rods from sliding around. The other end of the rods rest on a bungie pulled between the handles over the back doors. These anchor screws hold really well in the plastic and won't pull out. And with the pulling force at a 90 degree angle from the screw, Its a strong mount. If you later decide to remove it, it only leaves 2 tiny holes.

I had the same desire to carry some rods but needed something that would handle rough roads so I designed custom rod mounts with my 3D printer to replace the rear hooks

That one hangs to low for my liking. I simply used a good thick rubber bungee cord with hooks on each grab handle. I think I used the 4 foot one, it was stretched pretty tight but this is what's needed to keep the rods from sagging down. I keep my back seats folded down so my best friend has plenty of room to stretch out as she pleases, she being a 65lb Basset Hound. Rods stay safe, out of her way and I have plenty of headroom and so does a passenger in the front seat. Total cost was about $3, YMMV?

Wow. I may have the best trick ever. I don't know where I saw this but i'll take credit if I have to.

Just go to walmart and buy a couple of the clothes hanger car rods. Hang one on the front hooks and one on the back hooks. I've been doing it this way for years and up to 9ft flyrods.
