I think a big shame was the Kia Borrego. They dropped a BOF three-row that seemed pretty neat on the market smack in the middle of 2008 and yanked it after a year. (two for Canada)

I heard they sold only ~22k of 'em in the US, so maybe the next time you see one you can imagine it as a 2009 4Runner sighting.

That and the last years of the standard multi-mode transfer case before it went Limited only is probably a big draw.

Ah yes the crossover madness began

I wonder if it’s the same thing for the fj cruisers. I pretty much only see 07s for sale. Really hard to find 2012-2014 except for brand new prices
FJ prices are almost as crazy as 80 Series prices

I'm just not a fan of the FJ look. Would like to get a later year Gen4 4Runner though. With the numbers listed, I see why they don't show up often.

I agree, i never understood the appeal of the FJs over the 4Runner but to each their own

Do the 2008 and 2009 models feature anything that’s unique or better about them compared to the earlier 4th gen models?

They changed the headlights and rounded the wheel wells in 06 I think. Other than that all I know of is electronic changes like TPMS and such.

Better rust proofing of the frame?

I just saw a mint 2008 V8 with 127k miles asking $22k. It was Limited 4WD. I was kind of tempted but not really.

Pretty much that they're the last years of the 4th gen although 2008 is when side airbags became standard and 2009 is when the Trail Edition popped up and that's probably the 4th-gen Holy Grail. (Only 4th gen factory locker, ATRAC button, other additions)

Would adore a factory locker-equipped 4th gen. I have a 2008 SR5, 115k miles, great little rig, no rust other than the notorious tailgate (IF ANYONE has a 4th Gen Tailgate in Canada, message me haha).

I think people are holding on to them, I bought mine from the original owner who was still on the fence about selling it even the day I picked it up (He replaced it with a 2023 Honda Pilot)

I am holding on to mine, until the day I can afford to import a diesel landcruiser
