Installed new 5100s, extra nut now and lots of grease...
Hey guys,
I installed new Bilstein 5100s at .85 and FJ cruiser springs on my front, basically replacing the exact same setup I already have. I also purchased KYB mounts kits as well to replace the shock hats. The nuts they provide are 15mm. My old ones were 14mm, and I have a fancy 14mm ratchet which helps me get the single one in the back, so I just reused those.
As I was cleaning up, I found an extra bolt, which looks like one of the 3 bolts on the hat that secure the shock assembly to the car. I had my toolbox out and tools all over the floor, but I have a really hard time believing I randomly had a 14mm nut on the floor, that looks exactly like one of the 6 I pulled off the old suspension. I verified like 12 times that each of my shock assemblies have all 3 nuts fastened. I've. gone over everything a couple times, and nothing looks out of place.
Any ideas on where else this could come from? Left is 15mm supplied by KYB, and right is 14mm supplied either by last KYB kit, or stock Toyota.
Other issue... Can CV axles sling grease and be fine? I had some grease build up on the boot on the tire side on one of my axles. There was also old dried grease on other components too, but I did a pretty thorough inspection of the boot and didn't see any tears. I'm ok paying to get it replaced, but don't want to if I don't need to.
Thanks guys
